Vienna University of Technology together with the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Austrian
Academy of Sciences is a member of the direct Dark Matter detection experiments CRESST and
COSINUS.

We are looking for a PhD student contributing to the experimental effort of the CRESST Dark Matter
experiment.

The candidate should have a Master degree in experimental particle physics and a solid background
in astroparticle physics. Expertise in dark matter detection techniques, modern programming
languages as well as in data analysis and statistics will be advantageous.

The successful candidate will analyse data taken with the CRESST experiment, including triggering,
energy reconstruction and event selection. A main aspect of the work will be the reconstruction of the
experimental raw data. Software and computational methods for data reconstruction and subsequent
analysis should be developed and implemented. In addition, development of the data acquisition,
studies on alternative Dark Matter models, background sources and comparison of measured and
simulated data could be performed. Contributions to the operation of the CRESST experiment at the
Gran Sasso underground laboratory in Italy (LNGS) are expected.

The position will be opened for a period of three years.
