About the role

Location: Austria - Linz

Hours: Full-Time

Type of Contract: Permanent

Since the current role holder is advancing his career within Borealis, we are currently looking for an Engineer (m/f/d) to join our Advanced Characterisation Lab in our Innovation Headquarter in Austria, Linz, having a focus on Impact & Long Term Behaviour of Polyolefins.

Borealis provides solutions and materials that enhance safety in food packaging, automotive and healthcare as well as water, sanitation, energy and communication infrastructure. Our company strategy includes the transformation to a circular economy and we focus on developing materials that can be collected, sorted and recycled.

This variety in our innovation strategy also shows in the day-to-day activities in this role. As a member of the impact and long-term behaviour team which consists of approx. 10 engineers and technicians, you will deal hands-on and in the lab with a wide range of samples from raw materials to finished products in all above-mentioned fields. Your focus will be on ensuring highest quality and technical standards in mechanical characterisation of impact, ageing, optical, fatigue, stress, hardness and thermo mechanical properties.

Besides being in the lab, your tasks and responsibilities will include:
* Ensure efficient operations in the lab including maximising throughput, quality and schedule adherence of tests
* Provide recommendations for best mechanical analyses in impact and long-term behaviour
* Develop, implement and maintain new analysis techniques, working practices, and calibration regulations according to international standards
* Ensure the availability and further development of state of the art Polyolefin characterisation methods and technologies
* Collaboration with experts in other analytical fields as well as with Scientists, Project Managers and other stakeholders in our R&D community including Intellectual Property, also across locations, and externally with institutes and universities
* Live and promote Borealis values, goals, especially about safety, in your daily work

About you

You hold a master's, alternatively PhD, degree in Physics or Chemistry with a polymer background. Any knowledge of Polyolefins and corresponding scientific methods and tools is a bonus. Overall, you should have broad knowledge of different mechanical testing techniques and you enjoy applying those hands-on in the lab, just as much as you enjoy organisational and scientific tasks.

This role is for you, if you are looking for an area of responsibility that allows you to be in contact with various internal and external stakeholders in your daily work, which can include some occasional business travel as well. Since most of your contacts will be in English, you need to have solid language skills.

Following Austrian law regulations, we offer, reflecting your experiences, skills and competencies, competitive compensation based on the collective labour agreement chemical industry starting at EUR 47.455,52 annual gross salary (based on 38 hrs/week) and are willing to pay more based on your experience and background. In addition, we offer a yearly bonus and a voluntary company pension plan.
