Senior Scientist "Process Chemistry" | focus Hydrocarbons, Petrochemistry & Recycling (m/f/d)

About the role

Location: Austria - Linz

Hours: Full-Time

Type of Contract: Permanent

Are you interested in research and technology development? Based in our international Innovation Headquarter in Austria, Linz, you will have the chance to put your knowledge to good use.

The position belongs to our Competence Centre of "Process Technology & Chemistry" within Borealis' R&D organisation in which around 45 colleagues are dealing with technology developments in areas of hydrocarbons, polyolefins, circular economy and carbon neutrality.

If your background comes from one or several of the areas of organic chemistry, petrochemistry, hydrocarbon process chemistry, bioorganic chemistry or environmental chemistry and if you want to develop yourself in the area of polymer recycling, then these could be your future tasks and responsibilities:

* Responsible for research and technology development in line with our innovation objectives
* Act as an expert in the field of hydrocarbon process chemistry, chemical recycling, sustainable feedstocks and purification
* Contribute to the development and improvement of Borealis chemical process technologies
* Responsible for the development of lab testing methods, knowledge transfer and training of new methods within lab teams
* Initiate new R&D projects and identify new R&D topics in the field of Borealis Hydrocarbon & Energy business, recycling of plastics, alternative feedstocks and C1 chemistry
* Manage R&D projects according to Borealis project management standards
* Interact strongly with colleagues in Operations and Business of Borealis
* Manage and/or realise research projects with universities or other partners
* Contribute to improvement of HSE&Q performance and to maintain highest HSE&Q standards

About you

For this role, you will need a PhD degree and background in one of these fields: organic chemistry, petrochemistry, hydrocarbon chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, bioorganic chemistry or similar. You should have at least 3 years of industrial experience in chemistry or in case of master education, at least 5 years of experience in relevant fields.

It would be great if you already worked in chemical / physical / material lab testing and with analysis techniques. Your general knowledge and understanding focusses on industrial chemical processes - more precise on hydrocarbons. Any knowledge about and interest in circular technologies will be a bonus.

As our company language is English, you should be fluent in this language, both written and spoken.

You will collaborate and network in teams and projects, and should therefore be a good communicator - preferably even willing and able to lead a small team of colleagues. We presume that personal strengths like conceptual, innovative and creative thinking are already your second nature as a scientist.

Following Austrian law regulations, we offer, reflecting your experiences, skills and competencies, competitive compensation based on the collective labour agreement chemical industry starting at EUR 52.204,04 annual gross salary (based on 38 hrs/week) and are willing to pay more based on your experience and background. In addition, we offer a yearly bonus, a voluntary company pension plan and a hybrid working model.
