Purpose of the Job

We are looking to recruit a flexible and motivated Weight Technical Administrator.

The Weight Technical Administrator will control train level mass and balance properties. Support mechanical architecture of new developments, optimizing layouts to ensure compliance with weight specific performance and safety requirements. Manage train level validation of mass and balance requirements. Support with measurements of sub-system weight and CoG.

* Train level weight forecast.
* Define mass allocations for sub-systems. Defend train level compliance with project mass & balance requirements.
* Derive project mass and balance requirements.
* Assess gaps between project and reference solutions, with their impact on train level mass and balance (considering changes in BOM, payloads, layouts, requirements, and suppliers).
* Assign mass targets for sub-systems. Monitor acceptance, and adjust accordingly (ie., negotiate between sub-systems, or propose changes to mechanical architecture). Benchmark allocations to ensure feasibility.
* Contribute to supplier selection, especially where mass is mission critical.
* Drive a regular conversation with sub-system teams to review the completeness and accuracy of their inputs.
* Help design teams achieve their mass targets. Constructively challenge designs and integration solutions, drawing inspiration from best practices and database solutions. Manage associated risks and opportunities.
* Maintain an updated weight control structure for all vehicle and train configurations to simulate compliance with requirements. Review/query numerical models, drawings and supplier reports including first article inspections. Generate reports and deliverables required by Metier and/or customer. Ensure weight database is updated with definitive values (i.e., as measured).
* Calculate line category and vehicle track access charges, as required.
* Validate compliance to mass and balance requirements with physical measurements, including shim instructions for carbody to bogie installation, following Metier procedures.
* Support homologation and testing of other performance areas with ballast instructions.
* Performance measurement: Deltas between project and reference solution (carry over specific to Weight Management).
* Sub-system mass target allocation, acceptance, and compliance.
* Compliance forecasts (performance simulations that provide a range for train level mass and balance, considers margins, risks and opportunities).
* Quality of sub-system mass and balance inputs (i.e, maturity, completeness, time stamp).
* Progress of weight reduction or mitigation plans, as required (compliance roadmap).

* University degree (B.Sc., M.Sc. or equivalent), mechanical engineer.
* Experience in mass and balance control, vehicle architecture or vehicle dynamics in a relevant industry is preferred, ideally rail or automotive, aerospace and marine.
* Proficiency in math, with a basic understanding of static mechanics.
* Ability to work with modern numerical systems and databases.
* Understanding of costs and capabilities in design, manufacturing and testing.
* Fluent in English (German would be a plus).

The minimum salary for this position is 2.763,02 EUR gross / month (14 x) for full-time employment according to the collective bargaining agreement. Overpayment depends on relevant work experience and qualifications.
