The Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna has a vacancy for a Lecturer. The employment contract includes 12 hours per week, including teaching assignment of 4 hours scientific classes (SPL law or SPL history) per semester. The position is expected to represent the legal relations of Jews and Jewries in modern times in teaching. Competence is expected on the one hand for broad overview courses, on the other hand for specialized teaching formats, whereby in both cases a direct link between teaching and current research and discussion is assumed (e.g. Law & Empire, legal pluralism, minorities, law and religion "Return of the Gods"). Desirable is an expertise in international as well as specifically Austrian subjects, an integration of the legal history of Jews and Jewries in their relation to the non-Jewish environment in the questions and methods of general legal history, the ability to teach across epochs with special regard to the early modern Ius Commune (especially the question
of Jewish law as a personal radicalized particular law as well as a reference for general law), the interwar period (especially the correction of classical liberal constitutional law against the background of minority protection) and recent contemporary history (especially the question of the legitimacy of humanitarian intervention), experience in interdisciplinary cooperation between law and history, and a proven openness to innovative legal teaching formats such as moot courts.

Extent of Employment: 12 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B2 with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
As lecturer you will mainly work in the field of law/judaism and legal history, expected to represent the legal condition of Jews and Jewries in modern times in teaching. We expect the successful candidate to keep abreast of the state of scientific knowledge and continue their professional development. A teaching assignment of 4 semester hours scientific classes (SPL law or SPL history) per week is included in the workload. The demonstrated ability and willingness to teach in English is a precondition.
Profile:
Prerequisites for application and employment is a PhD in the field of legal or general history and several years of teaching experience at institutions of post-secondary education.
Desirable is an expertise in international as well as specifically Austrian disciplines, the integration of the legal history of Jews and Jewries in their relationship to the non-Jewish environment in the questions and methods of general legal history, the ability to teach across epochs with special attention to the early modern Ius Commune, the interwar period, and recent contemporary history, experience in interdisciplinary cooperation between law and history, and a demonstrated openness to innovative legal teaching formats such as moot courts.
