University Assistant (prae doc)
at the Department of Government

The Department of Governance of the University of Vienna, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, announces a vacant pre-doc position within the field of Democratic Governance (Prof. Wolfgang C. Müller). The Position is limited to 4 years.

Duration of employment: 4 year/s
Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
- Participation in research, teaching and administration

- Contribution to research projects / scientific studies, in particular in the area of political competition and content analysis of political communication

- Contribution to publications / scientific articles

- Contribution to organisation of conferences, meetings, symposiums

- Contribution to project application and (external) fundraising

- Possibility to write a dissertation in the context of a research project. We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.

- Holding classes due to extent regulations of wage agreement

- Examination activities and support of students

- Participation in evaluation activities and in measures of quality assurance
- MA in Political Science or related field / focus on Austrian politics and/or Comparative Politics (western democracies)
- Professional competence in the research area of political parties, elections, political competition, political communication
- Very good knowledge of methods of empirical social science research and research design
- Knowledge of principles of teaching and enjoyment of knowledge transfer
- High command of written and oral language
- Advanced computer literacy
- Excellent command of the English language
- Ability to work in teams
Desirable qualifications are
- Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
- Experience in research management
- Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding
- Experience abroad
- Knowledge of university processes and structures Application documents
